
SELA KERR
Curator, CAAM
Sela Kerr is an artist, curator and art historian from Los Angeles, California. Their research based practice is foundationally informed by African-American and queer mythologies, histories, and counter-narratives to the systemically oppressive historical canon throughout the 20th and 21st centuries in the United States.
As Curatorial Coordinator in the History department at the California African American Museum (CAAM), they are currently contributing to the forthcoming exhibition and catalog Queer Black California: Art & Politics(1950 - Present). They most recently co-curated ONE Magazine at 70 with the ONE National Gay & Lesbian Archives, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the first widely distributed homosexual publication in the United States. Sela’s further experience working in contemporary arts and technology includes their time with Snap Inc., The Museum of Contemporary Arts Los Angeles, and local art spaces in Oakland and Los Angeles. They hold a B.A. in Health, Culture, & Ecology and Art History from Mills College and a M.A. in Arts Politics from New York University Tisch, School of the Arts, Department of Art & Public Policy.
